“I’m so sorry.  I don’t know why I did that.  I didn’t imagine it would turn out this way.  I was afraid that it would, but I couldn’t stop myself.”  My sister was trying to hold back her sobs.  I knew that if I didn’t stop her, should work herself up into a frenzy and that I would be there for hours trying to get the rest of the story out of her.  All I know was that when I opened the door she burst in and said, “We broke up.” and then she started the hiccupping explanation.  I waited for her to take a breath and then I mentioned the magic of making up.  She smiled hopefully and thanked me.  I had only heard of it and that it had worked for a few friends, but anything that calmed her down could probably work out.
